Biography

I have been an economist, business journalist and market researcher in India and the USA. In addition, I have spent a lifetime investing in stocks and bonds. As a writer, researcher and investor, I am inclined to look at the big picture to find answers and solutions.

My mixed experience enables me to tie social psychology and politics on the one hand and applied economics on the other. I uncover insights by examining widely held beliefs from a contrarian economic perspective. My writing is a vehicle to translate abstract economic ideas into everyday conversation.

As an economist, I was closely involved with the deregulation movement in India in the 1980s and 1990s. In the 1980s, The experience taught me how our perceptions stand in the way of prosperity.

I worked as an industrial economist and completed research projects on the machine tools industry for the World Bank and on the textile industry for the Indian Planning Commission. While doing the research for these projects, I realized that India has a huge reservoir of entrepreneurial and technical talent that can be tapped for rapid growth. I came to the realization that a socialistic mindset was coming in the way of prosperity.

As a business journalist, I spent most of my time in the 1990s lambasting left wing populism from the perspective of an economist. I anticipated and lobbied for deregulation of telecommunications and the related service outsourcing.

In the USA, I have been involved in research and writing in the technology and financial services sectors.

My interest in issues of political economy have been rekindled by the current crisis in the USA. It is so reminiscent of India in the 1980s. The battle of ideas over entitlements is going to transform USA for the better or the worse. Can you bet against the USA? I don't think so. Is it going to be hard? You bet.

After arriving in the USA in 1998, I worked as a market researcher in the telecommunications industry. Following the bubble pop, I completed an MBA and trained for business intelligence. My recent writing and research relates to strategic planning.

My career so far has sharpened my skills to spot emerging trends and their impact on investment prospects. I can identify undervalued stocks with strong future prospects based on the analysis of the macro environment. I take a holistic view of economic and industrial trends as well as financial performance to find profitable stocks for investment.
